Grip leadership

PAPER=create a plan
SCISSORS=take action
ROCK=stay strong

This is one of the things they use to remember how to get in and get a job done at school and anywhere you are. The next thing we learnt was that the greatest display of leadership is when a person stands up for something. Then we watched four different movie clips and for each movie clip determined who the leader was and which stand up principle they used. We  also learnt sensible ways for leaders to stand up for them selves, looking for opportunities to lead.

L look and listen
E everyday
A ask
D decide and do

If you you do these you should become a good leader and achieve things quickly. We learnt how to develop your leadership plan.

N never say never

Shelly the egg

Shelly the egg was excited and ready to go. She was a little egg. Her parents, Bob and and Yoki, had promised her that they would go to the balloon Festival. At the balloon festival a sharply carved knife popped her balloon. Tears filled her eyes and then poured out. They tried to cheer her up by letting her play a carnival game and luckily enough she won a can of hair spray.

Skiing 2015

My goals for this year

My skiing goals for this year is to be confident skiing.

To learn how to parallel ski.

To go down from the top of the mountain and the giant.

I will hopefully be able to do all those things by the end of the ski trip

The car ride was long and slow but actually before we knew it we were driving up the mountain. Every year I always forget how long the trip is because I am always filled up with so much excitement that the time flies. The mountain sparkled and the weather was divine with not a cloud in the sky. As Mrs Fielder's car slowly chugged up the mountain I was pumped and ready to go I could not wait. As we drive up to the car park it was deserted. We where the first people there.
Our lesson: Donna was our teacher. She was great. She played all these different games with us like the juice game when you squeeze the outside leg outwards to make your favorite juice. In the hula hoop game first pick a favorite color and it is the color of your hula hoop and as you go to turn lean belly button over side of the hula-hoop the way you want to turn. The tail game practiced turning your heel out as well as your toes so it is easier to turn and ski parallel. The sponge game practiced squeezing ankles together to make it easier to turn parallel. I ate my lunch and then Hannah and Tyler approached me.
"We are going to the top. Could you please come with us.""Umm sure I guess so," I said.
Going down from the top: The feeling of leather seats behind my back felt soooo good and the footrest to put my skis on was great because on the other chair lifts they are metal which hurts your back and having your skis dangling pulls your ankles out of their sockets It was faster and it was luxury on the chair lift to the top of the mountain. I felt so professional when we hopped off. Me and Hannah had never done it before but Tyler had. So me and Hannah were worried but Tyler seemed to know where he was going. Down to the big bowl we went and it was exactly what it was named ... it was a big bowl. I got really worried but then I remembered that this is where I can use my parallel skiing and it worked. I went slow and steady down the big bowl at one point Hannah fell over which made Tyler fall over.It was so funny and since I turned around to look at them I nearly fell over too. After we skied the big bowl we came to the Giant and went down Upper Freeway and after Upper Freeway was Movenpick and after Movenpick was Parklane.

Sam the Dolphin

In my story I had to have the words Dolphin, Scream, Sausage and Irritate

I am going to tell you about a friend of mine that I saw on the street. His name was Sam and he was a Dolphin. I saw him on the way to the movies,so I asked him if he would like to come too.
He said, "I have got nothing else to do so why not." So off we went to see the fluffy duck movie. Sam had never seen a duck before and on the way in we walked past a sausage cart. Sam asked if he could have one. He said, "I have never had a sausage before."

Where am I? What am I doing?

It was dark and misty tall skinny trees with no leaves were all over the stage. Clouds made out of giant fluff balls filled the sky. But on top of one tree was a man sitting in a bird like position. He started to wriggle and move a bit. Then from out behind him he lifted up his wings and took a big dive. The crowd was shocked. He started to flip his flags wildly like a baby chick trying to fly for the first time. He landed gracefully on the stage. And then the show began.

"Designers were inspired by the magical and inventive world of children's imaginary friends," said the person on the loud speaker. I felt like I was in a child's dream. about me production

My name is Brooke Pratt. I am 11 years old.
I like netball, rugby, swimming, tennis, dancing and everything else.
The first play I was involved in was Grease. I was a Ballroom dancer and one of Pink Ladies in the Milk Bar. Ever since I have joined in all 7
of the school’s productions.
After Grease I was one of the village people in the ‘Maori myths and legends’. And mummy bear in ‘The three little wolves’. And a swany swan in ‘The Lorax’. And did ballet in ‘Apiti’s got talent’. And for our production last year, Bad jelly the witch, I was Dingle mouse. He is quite similar to Dog in Footrot Flats. I chose Dog and Dingle mouse because they are both funny, happy and cheerful and fun to act. Dog is Wallace’s best mate; although sometimes Dog gets a bit excited when it’s time to go on the farm and grabs Wal’s legs and slobbers on on them.
Wallace needs dogs help on the farm to get the mob in the holding pen to shift the mob....... the list goes on. Man and Dog in harmony.

brooke sugar speech 2015

Pidzz ..  Hey ... Do any of you want to buy something that will.. make your heart race.. make you feel really good.. something that tastes good too.. (huge pause) .. It is however very addictive and poisonousness to your body.
But still tastes really good!!!
It’s the deadly white powder. SUGAR

Sugar is one of the most addictive substances we have in our diet today.

I’m going  to tell you what sugar is and how your body copes with it, the serious effects sugar has on your body,
but don't be too alarmed because I’m also going to tell you about how to safely consume sugar and use other alternatives.

Sugar is a simple carbohydrate quickly being turned into glucose in your bloodstream. This makes your blood sugar levels spike up and drop down suddenly, making you want more sugar ... and so the addiction begins.
After all it’s not natural for our bodies to have sugar highs and lows.  This leads to diabetes. Did you know that in 2013, a massive 243 125 New Zealanders had diabetes.
Sugar leads to cavities in your teeth., it is such an enemy to dental health.
But too much sugar can also lead to many other health problems ... obesity, liver failure, pancreatic cancer, kidney disease, heart disease and of course ... addiction!!
Do any of you want to suffer from those diseases?
Absolutely not! So listen to me as I tell you how to be safe with sugar.

Unlike complex carbohydrates that we find in foods like carrots and apples, processed sugar is a simple carbohydrate. Foods that are complex carbohydrates also release the sugar more slowly and consistently into your body and hence a more natural process for your body to handle. So get your natural sugar from fresh foods They are better for us and they are still really sweet tasting.

BUT you may NOT know when you read a label how much sugar it really has!

Did you know food manufacturers are very clever at changing the name of sugar on their labelling some are ...
, treacle, fructose,glucose,sucrose,lactose,corn syrup.
These are all just .... sugar.
Take a look at the label on your food I bet you there’s sugar in it! And how much?

Did you know that only 6 teaspoons of sugar is the recommended daily intake ... I bet many of us have more than that. Do you really know how much sugar you have each day?
For example ...a can of coke.  considers This contains 10 teaspoons of sugar ... nearly double the recommended intake!. Wouldn’t it be better to squeeze a couple of oranges

Be aware ... Sugar is everywhere. What are you going to choose to eat today?
Carrots, apples and tomatoes or that deadly white refined poisonous powder ... SUGAR

dog intro

This year my character is Dog. He is black and white and weighs about 20 kg with an ……...outlook on life.
Dog was born on October 13th at Aunt Dolly’s holiday home for cats. Her holiday home is in Tauranga!! Because he grew up with cats he developed a cat’s personality. He was afraid of other dogs as well as sheep. He was a very confused farm dog.
Oh and Dog loves Jess, which is Cooch Windgrass’s dog from next door. The first time he saw Jess their eyes met across a crowded pigpen. Dog  was stealing scraps from Cooch’s sows. But then one of the sows spotted him. The sow charged, sinking her sharp teeth into his leg. Jess was shocked and ran home. They both were traumatised and have been afraid of pigs ever  must agree since. The next day he saw her again and it was not a very good time. He was riding in Pongo’s baby pram between a teddy bear and a daisy doll wearing a pink bonnet and drinking raspberry drop cordial from a bottle with a teat. Embarrassing!!!.
But Dog has some competition for Jess’s affection.
Wal’s pig dog, Major, thinks he’s a big wheel just because he’s rough, tough and mean.  Although he is strong, he is also courageous. Major thinks he’s better than all of the animals on the farm. Jess likes him too because he seems brainy.
Jess also likes Aunt Dolly’s corgi, Prince Harry. He is pampered and does not have to work on the farm. He wallows in luxury all the time and is handsome and smart.  Dog also loves Wal. His owner Wal is Dog’s favourite person in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!!
Dog loves Wal and Wal loves Dog they’re a team and you must agree ... man and dog in harmony.

Fungi report

Hypholoma Acutum is its significant name. It is a part of the sap-robe family which is lives on decaying wood leaves or branches. A brown cap covers the top which sits on a long white stalk. Thousands of tiny little gills under the cap have spores in them. The fungi lives on a rotting branch eating the dead wood.

Mushroom description

Beautiful popping red toadstools with tops as flat as pancakes.
A nice little family of fungi grows at the roots of a big tree. It looks like a perfect place for a smurf or fairy to live. Beautiful green grass covers the ground. Brightly colored leaves are scattered on top and rays of the warm autumn sun shines all over the ground. Long white stalks hold the mushrooms up. Little white dots on top make it look as if the mushrooms has freckles.

world war 1 mascots

Lots of different animals went to war and all did different things such as donkeys carrying supplies cats caught rats in the trenches and some went as mascots.
A mascot can be many things like a teddy or a animal and people believe that they bring good luck.
Many nz troops had mascots the soldiers kept mascots for lots of reasons a mascot was a friend and companion like a pet. A mascot gave them positive to think about. It was a reminder of home and normal life.
Some soldiers had mascots while they were in new Zealand some had mascots when they were overseas sailors in the navy had them too. Pelorus jack was a bulldog that lived on the ship HMS new zealand.
When the first pelorus jack died in an accident (he fell down a funnel) a second bulldog with the same name took his place.
Not all mascots survived the war some died in the fighting. A dog named Freda the mascot of the nz rifle brigade has a gravestone at cannock chase in england. lots of mascots had to be left behind lots animals were given to cairo zoo when the troops left the city

The bantam and the soldier summary

"The Bantam and the Soldier" Summary

Young Bantam getting picked on by the other Bantams and its war time.
When war came to the village he took the good animals with him and he left the bantams to fend for themselves.
The little bantam slept away from the others.
There was an explosion the bantams got blown up except for the little one he stayed in the bush and he was the only one that survived.
The soldiers headed into the village one was Arthur and he got picked on like the bantams by the other soldiers.
The farmer heard movement in the bushes and it was the bantam.
Arthur freed the bantam and put it in his coat pocket.
The soldiers tease Arthur about having the bantam.
The soldiers started to like the bantam.
They collected bugs for her and she rewarded them with a egg.
Bertha kept hope in the soldiers.
The battle moved past them.
They weren't allowed to take bertha with them.
They took Bertha back to the farmer and said goodbye.
Arthur returned home and was friends with his fellow soldiers.
He said to his niece i want to tell you a story and told her about the bantam called Bertha.

Moral and message of the story:

  • if you're nice to people you get good things back
  • if you stay strong in your mind about something to achieve your goals.
  • the chicken brought hope to the soldiers
  • if you are really positive about something and others aren't stay strong about it and eventually they will come around to it.

Sam Strahan

Friday the 24th of April was the Manawatu Sam Strahan Rippa Rugby Competition for schools with under 100 students. We, Northern Oroua, had some pretty tough competition with teams from Waituna West, Linton Camp, Kiwitea, Hiwinui and Bainese. Last year we lost to Waituna West in the final so we are really hoping that we will go well this year.
A quick run around the field and some passes. We were ready for our first game against Waituna West ... Dun Dun Daaaaa!!!!!
Our starting team was Huntah, Logan, Lachie, Jacob, Hannah, Rupene and Ella and our subs were Aubyn, Aleisha and Brooke. It was a fairly easy game but one of the boys from Waituna West was small and speedy and he would zoom past our players. Because he was small, you had to bend down to get the rips and he scored a couple of the tries. At half time Brooke, Aubyn and Aleisha came on. The final score was  8-3 to us.
From here we had 4 more similar games and were pleased to make the final.
This was a nail biting game. Each time we scored a try they returned with a really quick try. It was really even. At full time we won by only a single point. The score was 8-7. When I watched the first half it was really frustrating to watch as we knew we had to win this year. I knew when I went on that I had to make a difference.
It was a great day. Thank you to the Turbos for organising it!

Holiday story

My heart pounded. Butterfly's filled my belly. I was finally going ice skating! I have been begging mum to let me go for ever and ever.
I grabbed some size 4 skates and off I went before falling on my bum ... and getting back up again. After a while got the hang of it. I was zooming around. We hired a stand thing that you could go with someone on it. I asked lily and Caitlin if they wanted to come around with me.

I HAD LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!!

Day 4 camp cameo

"We are now entering the cook straight there will be 4 metres swells and we ensure you to find somewhere to sit"
Oh did you hear that we better go back up to our gear find a place to sit and get comfortable while we go through the cook straight. We sat down and started to chat but then suddenly the boat started to go up and down up and down my stomach Instantly began to tighten And my head started to lighten was going to be sick. It was a very long trip I slept a little bit of the way I was outside a little bit of the way but most of the way I was looking out at the horizon sucking ice it probably was one of the worst boat rides I have ever had but it was still fun at the same time it was like going on a roller coaster!!!

Camp cameo - day 3

The wind blew in my hair my toes over the edge of the bat our eyes beamed at the water in search for the very rare hectors dolphin.it was dead quite. All of sudden a little round black fin appeared out of the blue then we realized that it was a hectors dolphin.all around me every body gasped. this is what we had come to see! I felt very lucky to see the hectors dolphin. One of them was very playful and loved to spin around and jump everyone giggled and laughed then we saw a mother and its calf it was very little. Afterwards the guide showed us pictures of the calf in the mums tummy. Every whanau group got up and some karaoke my group sang up town funk and we won the prize. I learnt lots on the dolphin watch tours boat it was one of the best experiences I have ever had.

Camp cameo - day 2

MORNING
I hop in the boat with my best buddy Hannah. It was her first time in a sail boat but I have a catamaran at my beach house in Kinloch\Taupo that I go out on with my dad. But of course a sail boat is little bit smaller and I only do the rope work.
This time I am doing the steering but there is no wind so we are not moving so I use the steering paddle to move back and forward back and forward. It goes making us move along slowly. We get to the red buoy, then I steer us around it and back.
When we finally get back to the jetty I have a go on a SUP board. It took me a little while to be able to stand up but I got the hang of it.

AFTERNOON
I hop in a sail boat with another friend, Jayda.
There is much more wind out there compared to this morning
"We're going too fast!"
"It's going to tip ... Aaahhhh"
"Calm down. It's ok. Just let go of the rope then the boat will stop."
Once I got control again I tightened the rope and sail back to shore

Camp cameo - day 1

We hopped off the Cougar line boat at the Lochmara Lodge. It had birds, llama, pigs, chickens, kaka and more.
We hoped that the rain would hold off but that couldn't stop us. Around every corner was more art to be found ... hammocks, shoes, blocks  and more as we walked through an outdoor art gallery.
Sweat dibbled down my face as I walked up the Queen Charlotte track ... oh what ... that was rain!
