ski story

Driving closer and closer the giant snow covered mountain, I start to feel millions of butterflies flutter into my stomach. Then with a giant rush of excitement they banish into thin air. I have been waiting for this day to come and now that it's here and it feels unreal.

My skiing goals for this year is:-

  • To be confident skiing when I go down by myself.

  • To keep practising my parallel skiing and take it slowly instead of going really fast.

  • To go down from the top of the mountain and stay confident.

I will hopefully be able to do all those things by the end of the ski trip.

When I was skiing with Blair he taught me to lean forwards to the bottom of the hill when you want to go slower and lean back when you want to go faster and when turning lift your back leg up and it makes it easier.

Hundred word challenge

Standing in the wellington westpac stadium wearing my black All Blacks shirt and munching on a fatty hot dog. It was a hot summer night the perfect time to go to an all blacks game. It was 2 Minutes left to go on the clock crowd was cheering the score was 21 - 19 to the aussies but the All Blacks were keeping up there diffence but then Beauden Barrett makes a brake and bolts for the try line the aussies try to keep up but beauden is just to speedy then with a ginormous dive he scores a try suddenly the crowd roars with excitement. The score was now 24 - 21 to the All Blacks when suddenly the hooter goes…..

southland vs turbos

Recount Title: Go the turbos
Recount: The pouring rain bucketing down from the big grey clouds. And the clouds covering up the moon making it a dark and horrible night. Sitting under the shelter of the umbrella we almost didn’t bring. The foot paths full of people dripping wet and are leaving because they were not prepared for enormous rains that are coming down.  Looking out onto the rugby field it was southland vs turbos you could barely see a thing but the big bright lights shining down onto the rain made it look beautiful. And the rugby game was one of the most intense games I have ever seen the score was 31 - 31 and it was 3 minutes to full time. I told my dad that we just had to stay and see what the final score was. My dad replied with heck yea but let's go stand by the next so that as soon as it finishes we can leave straight away . as we stood up the hooter goes my eyes shoot up to the screen to check the score it was still 31 all but as I look down to the field I noticed that a southland player was off side but then our number ten grabbed the ball and booted it towards the goal post missed but then the referee blew the whistle it was a penalty to us so our number ten gave it a kick and it went straght through the posts and the whole crowd cheers with delight     almost full  of the rain in the pouring rain

Favourite thing story

My favorite thing the beach
The hot sand between my toes the crystal clear water just has to be swum in the the crisp fresh breeze blows the sand into all our stuff the hot sun  beaming down onto the water making it sparkle as if it has been covered with glitter the sound of the sea gulls squawking and waves crashing in onto the shore. Shells cover the seashore and create a long line down the beach showing where high tide goes to and kids making sand castles

Sir Peter Blake Speech 2016

The news headlines throughout the country. The America’s Cup is now New Zealand’s Cup!
This was the passion of Sir Peter Blake. After three attempts … and fails ….Sir Peter Blake and team had won
Sir Peter Blake
A sailor, Adventurer, Leader, Environmentalist, Hero,
What the story of Sir Peter Blake shows us is that ordinary New Zealanders can achieve extraordinary things
And I believe … everyone of us can learn from Sir Peter Blake
Everyone of us can all make a difference … everyone of us can achieve extraordinary things … just like Sir Peter Blake.

Point 1
The Blakes were a typical Auckland sailing family.
The back lawn of the family home in Bayswater sloped down into the Waitemata Harbour.  He sailed all the time … after school, in the weekends, all holidays … until he was one of the best sailors in NZ.
His greatest dream was to lead New Zealand in the America's cup but was it possible that little new zealand could ever beat the formidable competition.
Point 2
Peter was an ordinary guy with a passion for sailing … who became a great leader. How?
  • Peter listened. He believed you have one month and two ears. Listen twice as much as you talk.
  • Peter lead by example. He got in beside his crew got the job done. He even cleaned the toilets with them.
  • Peter was not afraid to fail. In fact he believed the greatest failure is NOT to pursue your dream.
Point 3
During his many voyages Peter had time to watch the beautiful wildlife. But he started to see pollution and wildlife in distress.
He understood that the environment must be appreciated. Suddenly he knew what he needed to do.
He became an ambassador for the environment.
He visited many  environmental hotspots of the world and reported back
While on the Amazon…..On December 6, sometime after 10pm, the crew were suddenly confronted by eight armed intruders. They demanded that they hand over watches and money. During the fighting, while trying to defend his crew, Peter was shot and killed.
Point 4
Our nation went into shock. This was so tragic … as his real calling had only just began.
But Peter’s story, like all great men and women, does not end with his death.
His legacy lives on.
Sir Peter Blake’s story shows us people do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things. Every little thing makes a difference.

Dare to stand up for what you believe in.
Dare to make a difference …
Dare to achieve extraordinary things … just like Sir Peter Blake.

When I got home from dance my brother was cooking dinner until he got a phone from I don’t know who. They were talking for ages so I decided to hang out the washing on the line for mum down in the living room. Suddenly I heard a loud scream so I ran into the kitchen where the pan was on fire my brother had forgotten about the food. Then he grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out.
Kiwi Kids Article:
Ganges river Pollution increases
Summary:
The ganges is one of the greatest rivers on earth, but it's dying.
From the icy himalayan peaks right down to the bay of bengal it's slowly being poisoned it is also the sewer that carries away the waste.
Pollution from the factories and farms has turned its waters toxic.
The first action plan 30 years ago was to make a series of huge sewage plants. Most are working way below capacity or not working at all.
They are going to build more plants but at the moment only a third of the city is connected to the sewers
The rest just goes straight into the ganges.

When the power goes out

When the power goes out…….
Sitting in front of the fire watching tv and on was the news it was on a ferociously windy wet cold and stormy thursday night after a long and wet netball practice which was soon fixed by a nice hot bath and a bowl of a nice hot soup in my tummy when suddenly there was a loud crash then as if some had set a bomb of and a big gush of water even more than before and it also seemed like someone an enormous bucket of water then then the lights went out and I was sitting by the fire by myself when I remembered that dad was in the kitchen loading up the dishwasher and mum was giving my brother a bath and my sister was sitting on the couch watching the news too so I reached over and grabbed the matches and a candle  light the candle and slowly stumbled down the hallway to my mum she was holding my brother and slowly walking to the fire so i rescued her then I went to save my dad walking back with him I got to excited and as the flame flickered and then went out I suddenly started to panic but my dad guided my through the doorway where we all sat until the power turned pack on again we made a plan to grab  all the torches and candles and put them everywhere just in cause the power goes out again.

sam strahan

Friday the 8th of April was the Manawatu Sam Strahan Rippa Rugby Competition for schools with under 100 students. We, Northern Oroua, had some pretty tough competition with teams from Waituna West, Linton Camp, Kiwitea, Rongotea, Colyton, Longburn and Bainesse. Last year we won the cup so we were ready to win again.
A quick run around the field and some passes. We were ready for our first game against Rongotea Tigers. Our starting team was Lochy, Liam, Remy,Dylan, Brooke, Le-Arna and Oliva and our subs were Hunter, Bonnie and Charlotte.after two more games and were pleased to make the Quarter final then the semifinal. But the last game against colyton This was a nail biting game this meant it was a tough one. Each time they scored a try we tryed to score one in returned with a try. At full time we lost 4-9. It was a great day. Thank you to the Turbos for organising it!  -  By Brooke

My Underwater Ambulance

An underwater marine mammal hospital hidden in the Cook Strait.
A submarine ambulance, with a hi-tech convertible glass viewing platform, on a mission to rescue injured animals.
Lost fish or marine mammals safely reunited with their worried pod or school.
Saving endangered sea life...one fish at a time.

What next ...

After being cramped on a bus on an extremely hot day for fifteen minutes, and when I say cramped I mean sharing one seat with two people, we arrive at a beautiful big lake/lagoon.

Whatever you do don’t panic when you go out! I kept reminding myself of what the lady had told us but because she hadn’t yet said what our challenge was.
I was in my togs floating in the shallows in a big bright red canoe having no idea what we are about to do. The instructor push me out a bit deeper and said, "Ok".

Te Papa Gallipoli

Walking into a big dark room an enormous sculpture of a injured anzac soldier awkwardly lying on the muddy ground. His crippled hand was covered in blood, the other pointing a gun at the enemy! His face was furious with anger and despair. The sweat on his grimy face looked fresh and the uniform he was wearing appeared to be authentic. I kept forgetting that it was only a sculpture to represent what it was like in the war. They had done it so well that I felt like as if I was there at Gallipoli with the soldier. I felt his pain. Animation at Capital E

After dumping all our bags in big wooden boxes walking into a big dark room take a seat said sam our instructor and instantly everyone raced to seats in the middle of the room he explained to us about what we going to be doing. to start off we all went to a computer and did a maze to practiced using the tablet to draw after that we used animation-ish to animate our names then we had make a ball bounce using the duplicate button and moving it a bit I found it really easy to use animation-ish and thought that it was a very great site to use for animating after everyone drew a ball we all got to make our own animations. I made a video about a spider making a spider web it was really cool. After that we walked around to the playground on the waterfront and had a bread roll and some baking and some fruit then we played on the playground it had a giant slide that everyone loved to go down there where lots of pigeons and Savannah and Elliot loved to chase them and the boys loved to feed them. After lunch we went back to Capital E and got ready to film in the trenches. First of all Kit showed us around the studio then he gave us our scripts and then we started practicing our words and sarah and jacob learnt their jobs then we did a run through then a dress rehearsal and then the final take I found it really easy to read of the autocue and phinece did a good job rolling it

Wellington War Museum

Warning Please Step Away…….. Silence strikes the room and everyone's eyes turn to a small boy in the corner that was leaning over the railing and got too close to a piece of artwork ... “Elliot!!” exclaimed a little girl beside him.
Our tour guide, Andy, told us lots of interesting facts about World War One and he had loads of great knowledge about it all. He also knew heaps of inspiring stories about curious soldiers and nurses that made a difference during World War One. I was truly inspired by some and I have learnt more today then I think I have ever learnt before in a day. We learnt what they had to eat and what the trenches were like and kind of guns they used and what kind of clothes they wore, and then to top that off, we went outside with Ashley and learnt about the unknown warrior, a soldier that they dug up from an ANZAC graveyard in Gallipoli. First they checked it was a New Zealander by looking at its clothes. After that they brought the soldier back to New Zealand and walked the soldier to its new grave. Lots of people turned up to see the soldier that represents all of the other unknown soldiers that died in the war. After we learnt about the unknown warrior, we went down to a great big memorial made out of wood, which represents the Australian and New Zealand soldiers that fought in World War One. At the end of our tour we laid a wreath at the last post and Daniel read the Ode in Maori very well. After that we went to Monsoon Poon for dinner.        By Brooke
