Recount Title: Go the turbos

Recount: The pouring rain bucketing down from the big grey clouds.And the clouds covering up the moon making it a dark and horrible night. Sitting under the shelter of the umbrella we almost didn’t bring. The foot paths full of people dripping wet and are leaving because they were not prepared for enormous rains that are coming down.  Looking out onto the rugby field it was southland vs turbos you could barely see a thing but the big bright lights shining down onto the rain made it look beautiful. And the rugby game was one of the most intense games I have ever seen the score was 31 - 31 and it was 3 minutes to full time. I told my dad that we just had to stay and see what the final score was. My dad replied with heck yea but let's go stand by the next so that as soon as it finishes we can leave straight away . as we stood up the hooter goes my eyes shoot up to the screen to check the score it was still 31 all but as I look down to the field I noticed that a southland player was off side but then our number ten grabbed the ball and booted it towards the goal post missed but then the referee blew the whistle it was a penalty to us so our number ten gave it a kick and it went straght through the posts and the whole crowd cheers with delight     almost full  of the rain in the pouring rain

My favorite thing the beach

The hot sand between my toes the crystal clear water just has to be swum in the the crisp fresh breeze blows the sand into all our stuff the hot sun  beaming down onto the water making it sparkle as if it has been covered with glitter the sound of the sea gulls squawking and waves crashing in onto the shore. Shells cover the seashore and create a long line down the beach showing where high tide goes to and kids making sand castles

What the story of Sir Peter Blake shows us is that ordinary New Zealanders can achieve extraordinary things

And I believe … everyone of us can learn from Sir Peter Blake

Everyone of us can all make a difference … everyone of us can achieve extraordinary things … just like Sir Peter Blake.

Point 1

The Blakes were a typical Auckland sailing family.  

The back lawn of the family home in Bayswater sloped down into the Waitemata Harbour.  He sailed all the time … after school, in the weekends, all holidays … until he was one of the best sailors in NZ.

His greatest dream was to lead New Zealand in the America's cup but was it possible that little new zealand could ever beat the formidable competition.

Point 2

Peter was an ordinary guy with a passion for sailing … who became a great leader. How?

• Peter listened. He believed you have one month and two ears. Listen twice as much as you talk.
• Peter lead by example. He got in beside his crew got the job done. He even cleaned the toilets with them.  
• Peter was not afraid to fail. In fact he believed the greatest failure is NOT to pursue your dream.

Point 3

During his many voyages Peter had time to watch the beautiful wildlife. But he started to see pollution and wildlife in distress.

He understood that the environment must be appreciated. Suddenly he knew what he needed to do.

He became an ambassador for the environment.

He visited many  environmental hotspots of the world and reported back

While on the Amazon…..On December 6, sometime after 10pm, the crew were suddenly confronted by eight armed intruders. They demanded that they hand over watches and money. During the fighting, while trying to defend his crew, Peter was shot and killed.

Point 4

Our nation went into shock. This was so tragic … as his real calling had only just began.

But Peter’s story, like all great men and women, does not end with his death.

His legacy lives on.

Sir Peter Blake’s story shows us people do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things. Every little thing makes a difference.

Dare to stand up for what you believe in.

Dare to make a difference …

Dare to achieve extraordinary things … just like Sir Peter Blake.
