sand dunes

A Sand dune Adventure

I jump with excitement as we pull up at the sand dunes.
Wow! Look at that huge cliff. Johnny ... Do you want to go up that huge cliff?” I ask.
“Ok.”
“Brooke, What is it like up there?” Dad calls from the car.
“I can't see the beach. It is a long way away from where the sand dunes are. So far I can only just see the water?
“Can I come up?” Dad calls to me. The cliff is straight up up in front of him like a giant wall of bricks. He is worried that he won’t be able to get up and he is wondering how we had managed it.
“Yes you can, I reply, “but only if are good at climbing!” Actually once we got climbing it was easier because half of the sand had fallen and it wasn’t so steep once you got a little higher.
“But be aware of scary scorpions. They might bite you because we are in the desert. And deserts are known for scorpions.”
So dad started to climb up to join us.
“Dad! Look, out! I can see a scorpion nest and they are running after you!”
“Brooke, don't be silly! There are no scorpions in NZ,” Johnny laughed.
Noo! We are just pretending that there are scorpions you silly billy.”
Ohhh!”
“Now let’s pretend we are  Bear Grylls and we are trying to survive in the wild.”
“Ben, Brooke and Johnny! Where are you?” came the call from below. Mum had been unpacking lunch at the car.
“We are here. Here up the cliff.”
“Come down to have something to eat and then we have to go back to Ahipara,” Mum said.
“But Mum, we want to go back and play Bear Grylls again.” There is an even bigger hill that we were going to go up. There are hills and hills and hills for miles. We just want to keep on exploring.

Pick a path option 1
But mum is all ready with lunch so we walk down for a bite to eat and then off drive to Ahipara.

Pick a path option 2
So off we go back up to explore the sandy hills. We had a great idea. We could get sand for Johnny’s sandpit.
So we walk up a big hill to find some soft sand. I take a step and suddenly the sand takes me down. I sink into some quick sand. I am terrified.
“Help,” I yell to dad. With every second I sink more and more!
‘’Help,’’ I yell even louder than last time! “Johnny, go and get dad.”
Johnny runs and tells dad what is happening. Dad sprints back up to me. He tries to pull me up but the quick sand fights back.
So he looks for something to help him. He spots a stick in the middle of the hill and grabs it and runs back to me. He tells me to hold on to it.
I do. I hold the stick tightly with all my strength.
He pulls with all his might but I don’t move. The quick sand fights back again. So again dad pulls. I am stuck like a fly in a spider’s nest.
He tells me to move my legs while he pulls.
“1 ... 2 ... 3   go!!!” he calls.
Dad pulls.
I move my legs. I squirm and kick ... and kick.
Yes!! I am out.
I am relieved but so tired.
I give Dad a big hug and say thanks. And we go back to our  home at Ahipara.

Pick a path option 3
So off we go back up to explore the sandy hills. We had a great idea. We could get sand for Johnny’s sandpit.
So we walk up a big hill to find some soft sand. I take a step and suddenly I trip and get a big pile of sand in my mouth. I roll till my back is on the sand and I stop. As I look down I see my foot is bleeding. I stood on some glass and my foot is bleeding. I have  to stop the bleeding . By now my foot is red.
“HELP!” I scream to Dad. “My foot is bleeding.”I try to slowly roll down the hill.
Johnny yelled, “Look dad, Brooke is a snake because she is rolling down the hill”
“NO! I am rolling down the because I have a bleeding leg!”
“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”
“And it is bright red.”
“Quick ... we need to put something around it to stop the bleeding.”
I quickly rip off my jacket because it was the easiest to take off and I know it will fit around my foot. I need to stop the bleeding.
Quickly I wrap it around my foot, pull it a little tight and push on the cut to stop the bleeding.
Dad sprints over to me and asks if I am ok.
He carries me back to the first aid kit in the car. We put a bandage on it and head back to Ahipara.

"No you don't need lollies. We have some food in car."

"Look here come Dannevirke."
"Finally it has started. I think Johnny will get 4 tries.

Still there is already a hole in the fence so we can go though.
Brookie you go first.

Are you sure you want to go on the soccer field?
No I don't now.

Brooke's Holiday

I am learning to use more description and interesting words so the people who are reading it can understand it well.
When you are reading my writing, you can help me by telling me the bits that are really descriptive and interesting for you. Thanks.
"Johnny I think we are at the sand dunes and it has big sand dunes and we can slide down them. I am so excited. Are you?""Yes this is going to be so cool." "Mummy, me and Johnny are going to go up the sand dunes.""Okay.""Come on Johnny. Let's go up the sand cliff and slide down it."Wweeeeee!
"That was fun. Daddy, can we go up the big big sand hill?" "Come on slow poke. I am it the top. It is like I am Bear Grills in the desert and I am trying to survive in the wild.
"Johnny you are still not up."
"Finally you are up Johnny! I am going to slide down on my back."
The sand felt like spiders crawling down your back .
